Greg R. Barry
President and CEO
Mr. Barry has more than 25 years of experience in senior management positions at leading lighting companies, and a successful track record of growing both domestic and international market share and revenue. Prior to joining Topanga Technologies, he was Vice President and General Manager of Hubbell Lighting for the past 5 years and Vice President of Product Market Development at Acuity for 5 years previously. Mr. Barry began his career with General Electric in various sales and management roles over a 14 year span and earned a BA from the University of South Florida and an MBA from Central Michigan University.
Mehran Matloubian
Chief Strategy Officer and Co-Founder
Dr. Matloubian has more than 20 years experience in high frequency devices and circuits, and optical electronics. Prior to co-founding Topanga Technologies, he was a Managing Member at Smart Technology Ventures (STV), a venture capital fund based in Los Angeles investing in companies in the wireless, semiconductor, and clean tech. areas. Before joining STV, he was the manager of Hughes Research Laboratories (now HRL Laboratories) RF Circuits Design Department developing high-performance transistors and circuits for commercial and military applications. He has been awarded 23 U.S. patents with additional 10 patents pending. Dr. Matloubian received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1989.
Douglas Doughty
Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Doughty has nearly 20 years experience in plasma-based lighting technology. Prior to joining Topanga Technologies Dr. Doughty managed the lamp R&D group at PerkinElmer Optoelectronics where he led activities resulting in the commercialization of a new generation of high pressure xenon arc light sources. Previous to this, as a principle engineer with Osram-Sylvania, he led metal halide lamp design efforts and transitioned several new lamps to manufacturing. As a staff scientist at General Electric's Corporate R&D center he led R&D projects such as mercury-free fluorescent lighting. Dr. Doughty received his Ph.D. in Physics from University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1987; he has 23 scientific publications and 5 awarded patents.
Matt Espiau
Vice President of Engineering and Co-Founder
Mr. Espiau has more than 25 years of RF experience including nine years in the development of electrodeless lamps. Mr. Espiau was a co-founder of Luxim Corporation and was the principal inventor of the Luxim electrodeless lamp technology. Prior to Luxim, Mr. Espiau was the principal engineer at the UCLA Center for High Frequency Electronics for 17 years where his projects included measuring radar absorbing materials and structures; development of a near field measurement system for antenna characterization and design of active and passive circuits. He also co-founded Innotech Engineering which provides engineering development, testing, and analysis services for critical microwave and high frequency development applications. He has eleven awarded patents and more than 30 pending patents on electrodeless lamps.
Steve Montoya
Vice President of Product Engineering
Mr. Montoya has more than 30 years' experience leading product development and commercialization of many successful products in the highly competitive photonics and telecommunications industries. Prior to joining Topanga, Mr. Montoya managed the Product Engineering Group at HID Labs where he led activities resulting in the commercialization of a networked energy efficient lighting solution. Previously he led cross-functional teams as co-founder and head of engineering at Nayna Networks, a broadband access networking solution for the high-speed communications market worldwide. During his 15 years at Cisco Systems, Mr. Montoya held several progressive positions including key contributor to StrataCom and technical marketing leadership of the Security Internet Services Unit. He received his MBA Program from Pepperdine University and his MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
Brian Hermes
Vice President of Business Development
Mr. Hermes has 20 years of international business experience with 12 years concentrated on sales and business development with PerkinElmer lighting products. Mr. Hermes was the Global Sales Manager for medical lighting as well as managing projects to break through new markets in robotic surgery, cell phone camera flash, and the most powerful fusion research laser in the United States at the University of Rochester. Mr. Hermes received his B.S. in Economics from the University of Dayton in 1989 and a M.B.A. from the University of Southern California in 2002.
